Certified Meat Products History Print
The roots of Certified Meat Products go back to 1954 when Louis James Maxey (Jim) started a meat processing company in Fresno, California. During the early years Jim sold to retail stores, caterers, foodservice operators, hospitals, as well as the many patrons who learned where to go to get a great cut of meat for their weekend barbecue. The company became a well known supplier to the best restaurants in town because of its top quality products and exceptional service. Jim was also one of the first suppliers to the new McDonald’s Hamburger chain that built their first franchised operation right in his hometown of Fresno.

As the business continued to grow, the Maxey family was instrumental in developing other companies that would allow complete vertical control from the farm to the table. From livestock development to harvesting to manufacturing to further processing to distribution, the family of companies had tremendous depth and knowledge and became a leading figure in the meat industry.

In 2006, a large international company purchased the shares of stock of all family companies except for J&D FoodService, which did not fit their specific business model. In addition, the new state-of-the-art USDA further processing plant that had been built adjacent to the distribution center of J&D was left out of the package. This production facility, which was completed in 2005, opened the doors to the start of a brand new company. Hence, in March of 2006 the first products were put into a box labeled “Certified Meat Products”.

A new name, a new production facility, a new look, a new vision, but the same quality products and exceptional service that have been around for over 50 years! That’s Certified Meat Products – Center of the Plate Specialists!
